Professor Sajjad Haider

I am a Professor of Computer Science at the Institute of Business Administration Karachi, where I head the Artificial Intelligence Lab. My research spans probabilistic reasoning, natural language processing, and intelligent systems design. Over the course of my career, I have worked on probabilistic graphical models and influence nets for decision-making under uncertainty, ontology-based knowledge representation and semantic annotation, multi-agent coordination and robotic systems, and text analytics including sentiment analysis and information extraction. More recently, my focus has shifted toward large language model-driven knowledge extraction, with particular interest in low-resource language processing for Urdu and clinical applications in healthcare.
Beyond core research, I have applied AI and machine learning to financial and business domains, including work on suspicious transaction detection, portfolio optimization, and predictive modeling. I previously worked as a Predictive Analyst at Fannie Mae, where I developed large-scale machine learning models on tens of millions of financial records. I also led Karachi Koalas, a joint RoboCup 3D Simulation League team of IBA and the University of Technology Sydney, which achieved a 5th place world ranking at RoboCup 2013. I have also designed and delivered executive training programs in machine learning and analytics for industry, including the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
I completed my M.S. and Ph.D. in Information Systems and Information Technology from George Mason University, USA, in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Prior to that, I obtained my B.Sc. (Hons.) in Statistics and M.C.S. in Computer Science from the University of Karachi in 1996 and 1998.
